09/10/16: Youth Hajj Program- Rituals & Spirit of Hajj

Spirit & Rituals of Hajj- Performed by Youth at the Islamic House of Wisdom

Imam Elahi spoke with the children at the start of the program. The children had an opportunity to hear about the Hajj rituals with a highlight on the spirit and values of the blessed holiday of Eid al-Adha. Following the discussion, Br. Younus Makki led the youth through a series of activities, symbolic to the hajj rituals. Together, the children were encouraged to recite the talbiyah as they circled the miniture replica of the Kaaba. ( Labbayka Allāhumma Labbayk. Labbayk Lā Sharīka Laka Labbayk. Inna l-Ḥamda, Wa n-Niʻmata, Laka wal Mulk, Lā Sharīka Lak). Next, the children offered prayer together, led and explained by Br. Younus. Safa & Marwa, two small hills that are located in Mecca were also represented where children had a chance to walk back and forth between, seven times. The group concluded with ramī al-jamarāt, a symbolic reenactment of Abraham's hajj, where he threw pebbles at three pillars representing the temptation to disobey God. The children asked God to keep them from any sin, to keep us all on the straight path of righteous deeds. At the conclusion of the program, the kids had a chance to celebrate the completion of their Mini-Hajj with their families and friends. It was a wonderful and beautiful afternoon with the Youth & their families. Wishing everyone a blessed Eid al-Adha!
